Some of Ho Chi Minh City's most sought-after real estate is now up for grabs as authorities push to recover billions lost in the massive Truong My Lan fraud scandal. The bank at the center of the case has moved to auction off a portfolio of high-value properties linked to the convicted tycoon. These assets include luxury villas, prime commercial lots, and exclusive residential developments in some of the city's most prestigious districts.
The sale marks a key step in the ongoing effort to claw back funds from what is considered one of Vietnam's largest financial frauds. Truong My Lan, a prominent real estate developer, was found guilty of orchestrating a scheme that siphoned billions from Saigon Commercial Bank. Investigators say the properties being sold were either purchased with stolen money or used as collateral for fraudulent loans.
Local real estate experts expect strong interest from both domestic and foreign investors, given the scarcity of such prime land in Ho Chi Minh City. The auction is being closely watched as a test of the market's appetite for high-end assets tied to legal turmoil. Proceeds from the sale will go directly toward compensating victims and restoring the bank's finances. Officials have not disclosed a reserve price but confirm that multiple properties will be sold individually to maximize returns.
